    What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology (kin-easy-ology) is a natural complementary and alternative medicine.

It combines centuries old traditional practices from eastern cultures with modern scientific western approaches to medicine. This combination makes kinesiology a unique and effective complementary therapy.

Kinesiology uses muscle monitoring to identify where imbalance is held within the body. Subtle energy flows throughout the whole body through channels or meridians, much like blood flows through the body via blood vessels.

Disharmony in the body’s subtle energy flow can be detected through the practice of muscle monitoring. Health issues arise when energy is not flowing freely through the body and it can become stagnant or blocked.

These blockages can be from emotional, physical, nutritional, spiritual or other factors that brings stress to the body. With muscle monitoring, kinesiology can help to detect the cause and deal with the issue.

    Why Muscles?

Neurological information flows between the muscle and the central nervous system.

Involved in this relationship is the subtle energy flowing through the meridians. This can be referred to as a neuro-muscular-meridian relationship.

    • An imbalance of energy flowing through the meridians will result in a muscle ‘locking’ or ‘unlocking’ during muscle monitoring.
    • When the muscle locks or unlocks this is an outward physical sign that some subconscious issue or stress has been detected within the body.
    • The process is known as monitoring rather than testing because the muscle is not being tested for strength or weakness, rather it is being used as a tool to guide the kinesiologist to wherever the stress is held in the body.

What to Expect in a Session

People are complex and so too are the myriad of health related issues contained subconsciously within the body.

It may be that your first session takes us directly to the emotion causing your current stress or it may take several sessions. This will depend on how deep the issue is and how much stress your own body can deal with at any one time. Your body’s own innate wisdom will prevent bringing deep-seated issues to the surface too soon.

Two people may have the same issue but a kinesiology session will differ amongst individuals because it is the body’s own wisdom as to the most effective treatment for the individual.

    What Happens Next?

Once an issue has been detected, the next step is to find an appropriate correction necessary to bring about wellbeing.

What to Expect During / After a Session

A typical kinesiology session will involve:

    • Client to play an active role
    • The kinesiologist will muscle monitor different muscles depending on the client’s issue
    • The kinesiologist will lightly touch specific areas on the body
    • The kinesiologist and client will discuss issues that arise if the client feels safe to do so
    • A kinesiology session may bring up emotions ranging from happiness to sadness
    • The client may experience physical sensations such as feeling tingly, hot or cold

What Areas of the Body can Kinesiology Treat?

Kinesiology is a holistic treatment working on mind, body and spirit.

It can treat specific and non-specific issues. Some of these treatments are listed below:

    • Musculoskeletal problems: non-specific issues including sore muscles, aches and pains anywhere in the body and specific issues such as whiplash or frozen shoulder
    • PMT/menopause symptoms
    • Emotional and physical pain
    • Hormonal imbalances
    • Food sensitivities/intolerances
    • Respiratory issues
    • Digestive problems
    • Candida/allergies
    • Cardiovascular system
    • Stress/fatigue/tiredness
    • Immune system – repeatedly sick or run down
    • Learning difficulties

As the list above shows, kinesiology works with all the body’s systems  ranging from cellular level to organs. Kinesiology can treat people of all ages and body types.

    About Jacqui

I was introduced to natural medicine at quite a young age as our GP practiced homeopathy along with Western medicine.

Our GP would give us homeopathic powders in place of pills to address illness or symptoms of illness in the body with good results. Natural medicine obviously left an impression on me from childhood as I preferably seek out complementary health practitioners for my own health care.

What brought me to kinesiology? After contemplating the purpose of my life throughout my 40s, I began my personal spiritual growth by learning reiki. I became a second level reiki practitioner working on family members and friends.

After much encouragement and support from a dear friend I decided to study kinesiology. This was not a difficult choice as I have received positive experiences with kinesiology over many years.

Kinesiologists including myself are bound by a code of conduct for their profession which means they are not allowed to make any medical diagnoses. If a client makes such a request, I will advise them to see their own medical doctor.

Just as I would refer a client to their GP if they had a medical issue, I like to believe that one day GPs will say to their patients ‘there is no pill for your problem – I’ll refer you to a Kinesiologist’.
